About the Artist: Dietz Edzard (1893–1963)
Dietz Edzard was a German-born painter known for his colorful and whimsical depictions of ballerinas, circus performers, Parisian scenes, and elegant female figures. Born in Bremen, Germany, Edzard studied art in Berlin before relocating to Paris, where he became part of the city's vibrant interwar art scene.
Influenced by Impressionism and the Belle Époque, Edzard developed a distinctive style that blended romantic nostalgia with modern flair. His works were widely exhibited across Europe and North America, including at the Salon des Tuileries and the Salon d’Automne in Paris. In 1950, the French government honored him with a retrospective at the Musée d’Art Moderne.
Today, his paintings are held in both private and public collections, appreciated for their lighthearted spirit, lyrical color, and theatrical charm.
