Ngan's early exposure to the natural landscapes of both China and Canada deeply influenced his artistic sensibilities. He began his artistic journey studying at the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art and Design) and later honed his craft under renowned potters such as Bernard Leach in England and Shoji Hamada in Japan.
