English artist Thomas Sidney Cooper earned the moniker Cow Cooper due to his exercise of almost exclusively painting cattle and farm animals. Popular Thomas Cooper animal paintings for sale include Sheep in a Wintry Landscape and Cattle Resting. At the precocious age of 12, he started work as a coach painter and scene painter. Cooper relocated to London to study at the Royal Academy. In 1833, his artwork made a premier appearance at the Royal Academy, where he commenced to exhibit for many years. Artist Thomas Cooper also showed at the Royal Society of British Artists and the British Institution. Cooper traveled to Brussels where he met Belgian artisan Eugene Joseph Verboeckhoven who made a profound impact on his animalier paintings. Painter Thomas Cooper established the Canterbury Sidney Cooper School of Art in 1882.
