Fine 19th Century Derby Porcelain Cabinet Plate “Chatsworth”
A superb 19th century Derby porcelain cabinet plate, finely hand-painted with an idyllic woodland landscape centred by cascading waterfalls, rocky outcrops, and autumnal trees rendered in delicate naturalistic tones. The richly coloured cobalt blue border is lavishly embellished with raised and burnished gilt scrollwork and floral ornament in the Rococo taste, creating a striking contrast to the serene painted reserve.
The reverse bears a red Derby crown mark together with the titled inscription “Chatsworth,” likely referencing the celebrated Derbyshire estate that inspired many romantic English landscape subjects of the period.
Executed in the finest tradition of English cabinet porcelains, this elegant display plate exemplifies the refined decorative artistry associated with Derby during the late 19th century, combining exceptional hand-painted decoration with richly gilded ornamental detail.
Dimensions: approximately 9.75" diameter
Condition: Very good antique condition with light age-related wear and minor rubbing to the gilding consistent with careful cabinet display. No chips, cracks, or repairs observed.
An elegant and highly decorative example of 19th century Derby porcelain, ideal for collectors of fine English ceramics, cabinet plates, and richly gilded display wares.
